Lucifer's Hammer is thoughtful, terrifying, and outrageously entertaining (if you dig cataclysmic death and destruction) which, I must admit, I sometimes do. I recently finished Lucifer's Hammer by Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle published in 1977 (I found it hidden away in the basement). When I was younger, though some of my friends were reading the books of Larry Niven and Jerry Pournelle, I always thought they were going to be too hard and dry, so I never read them. You can't go wrong with this one. Fairly inventive downtuned riffage changes into slow, doomy power chords throughout. My flat mate gave me an extra copy of this Canadienne metal zine he had mail ordered, direct from the desolate wastes of the frozen North, and I read through it in the past couple of BART trips.
